Helpful Tips for Learning at Home!

READING

Help your child learn about books by reading to or with them each night. Use this time as special bonding time between the two of you while encouraging a love of reading. Try some of these ideas:

* Read a familiar story so your child can fill in the blanks based on what they remember

* Read a pattern book so your child can catch on and read along with you

* Take a picture walk (read the story based only on the pictures)

Writing

Help your child learn their alphabet by finding and pointing our letters in a variety of contexts such as: on street signs, in books or magazines, on packages in a store. Try some of these ideas:

* Have your child go on a hunt to find all the letters in their name using a single book, or a page in a magazine

* Have your child practice writing their name using a variety of tools (pencil, ,marker, paint, finger in the sand)

* Go on a scavenger hunt to find letters. (see how many b's you can find)

MATH

Help your child explore numbers. Try these ideas at home:

* Count the number of steps it takes to get from your room to the front door

* Help set the table for your family. (How many plates do you need?)

* Try to count the crayons in a box, and the number of cards in a deck, which one has more?
