Ms. Smith & Mrs. Grant's Kindergarten Class

This week we have been talking all about what we are thankful for. We are focusing on making our beautiful turkeys and writing stories as to how they might escape thanksgiving dinner. The class is very excited about our shared reading poem this week as the turkey in the poem hides in the woods and everyone eats pizza for dinner.  We have also been focusing on fire safety since it is fire prevention week.

Today the students were visited by the Fire Department and learned about fire safety. We also practiced our fire drill and all students are bringing home a few items given out by the firemen today. We learned a great deal! Thank you Fire Department!!

This week we have been talking about Fall. We have talked about how the leaves are changing colour and other changes that happen in nature this time of year. We have been writing about these changes and making some fantastic leaf art! We are also building our sight word vocabulary in language and working on our letters (Bb and Cc this week) and their sounds.

This week we really focused on patterning. We can find patterns and name them as well as extend any pattern we find. We can also create simple patterns on our own. We have been working on our sight words which are currently the colour words.

This week we are continuing to work on recognizing and printing our names. We are also learning about colours. We have learned the primary colours and have experimented with mixing them together to create secondary colours. We made adorable ladybugs to showcase this idea.

This week we are working on sorting objects based on size, colour and type of object. We are also continuing to work on recognizing our names, and writing them. We have been working very hard on developing our reading skills. We have learned how to hold our books and care for them in our classroom. We have also learned that there are three ways to read a book, look at the pictures, read the words/letters, retell a story that you have already read.

Welcome back to school SK's and welcome to Kindergarten JK's!!   Everyone is adjusting to being in the classroom quite nicely!  We are already working on recognizing our names, drawing ourselves, printing our names and of course learning our classroom rules and routines.  This is going to be a fantastic year!!

Over the summer our wonderful Miss. Baker got married.   She is now going by the name Mrs. Grant.  Congratulations Mrs. Grant!!!
